  • Meet the new team

HORNCASTLE Rotarians celebrated the start of a new Rotary year at the home of incoming President Karen CaudwelL.

Acting President Sylvia Ravenhall presented the Friendship Bowl - awarded each year to the member who the outgoing president judges to have made the most contribution to the club over the past year - to Karen who has untiringly juggled the jobs of Secretary and President Elect as well as championing the Disability Games in District 1070.

Karen said: “I'm very much looking forward to being president of Horncastle RC this year and thank you for giving me this opportunity.

“Myplan for the club this year is to ensure we continue to provide our service to the local community and further afield. To continue to support local communityevents and to join with other clubs in international projects as planned.

She continued: “But also we must ensure we increase the fun and fellowship within the club. My main aim is to increase our members and perhaps more importantly, retain them!  To this end, I'm planning more social events at my own home, trips to theatres, site visits, fun days out and more evenings outside our normal club venue.

Karen added: “I also will be visiting lots of other clubs and hope we can join them both for service projects and social events. I hope by next June to be able to hand the club over to our President Elect Stephen, both with an increased membership and vibrant agenda.

Chains of office were presented to the new team: President Karen, President Elect Stephen Holdaway and Vice President Mike Rinfret.

Thanks were expressed to Karen and guest Glenys Robertson of Grantham Kesteven Rotary Club for serving up a most enjoyable supper.

  • Tree of Light

The annual Tree of Light appeal, culminating in the switch-on in December, raised £3730.75 with Gift Aid. This is a joint project with Horncastle Lions.  Horncastle Rotary Club is rounding up its share of the proceeds to £1875 which will be shared between the three hospices - St Barnabas, St Andrew's and the Butterfly Hospice. The club has now raised nearly £24,000 since the appeal started in 2010.
Thanks to Bob Wayne of Horncastle Lions for the photograph of Acting President Tim Peacock, right and Rtn Sylvia Ravenhall reading the roll of names commemorated with a light on the tree at the junction of East Street and South Street.
